The Bulldogs took on the Huskies at New Hampton School on Wed, Nov. 2.
Despite being up by a goal at half time, the Bulldogs went away with a 1-1 tie, giving them a record of 13-2-2 on the season. New Hampton had a 15-3 shot advantage over the Bulldogs, and both teams had 4 corner kick opportunities.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the first minute of the game when Chili Dowd (Amesbury, MA) took a shot on goal, and it went just wide. New Hampton then kept control of the ball consistently for the first 10 minutes of the game until the Berwick team found their rhythm and began to battle.
With 21 saves in this match, Goalie Allie Moore (North Berwick, ME) made one beautiful save after another. In the 16th minute, she jumped high and caught the ball when a New Hampton offensive player shot from the 18.
Twenty minutes into the game, Blake Metcalf (Scarborough, ME) made a gorgeous corner kick and Bella Mazza (Madbury, NH) shot wide, hitting the side netting.
Three minutes later, Allie Moore made another great save off an impressive shot from a New Hampton player.
In the 35th minute, the Bulldogs made a clear statement when they scored a goal. This goal occurred when Allie Moore hit a free kick to Chili Dowd who beat a defender and kicked it to Bella Mazza; Mazza tapped it into the box to Grace Libby (Standish, ME) who knocked it to Ginger Friedman (North Hampton, NH) and Ginger Friedman shot and scored in the back of the net.
The second half of the game featured more impressive saves by Allie Moore, such as one she made in the 67th minute when she punched the ball out.
With 13 minutes left in the game, New Hampton shot high over the goal after a Berwick foul in the defensive third.
Allie Moore made another great save with 8 minutes left to go in the match.
With four minutes left in the second half, New Hampton scored their first and only goal, creating the tie score.
Allie Moore saved the ball on a front smother with only two minutes left on the clock.
While they would have liked having come away with a win, the Bulldogs fought hard for the tie, and they are looking forward to the remaining matches in their season, including an upcoming EIL Semifinal Game on their home turf on 11/11.
The Bulldogs will play at home against Brewster Academy on Friday, Nov. 4, their penultimate regular season game.
