The Blueprint for Excellence: How Berwick’s Pre-K–Grade 12 Pipeline Outpaces Peer Schools

While independent schools across the country champion rigorous academics, Berwick Academy’s Cum Laude and National Honor Society (NHS) inductees are bringing a striking statistical advantage to light: the unmatched, long-term return on investment of a multi-division Berwick education.
Of this year’s Cum Laude inductees, Sienna Buensuceso ’26, John McComiskie ’26, Maeve McEachern ’26, Justin McLaughlin ’26, Eesha Saksena ’26, Nathan Simonds ’26, Nathaniel Spiegel ’26, and Tatum Weir ’26, 88% progressed through Berwick’s Lower and Middle Schools. Berwick’s vertical curriculum pipeline prepares students for the highest levels of scholastic rigor and is a stark contrast to the standard independent school model, often relying on late-stage high school enrollment to bolster academic statistics.

The impact of a cohesive Pre-K through Grade 12 journey is reflected in the destination list for this year’s top scholars. These students are heading to some of the nation’s most competitive universities this fall, including: Dartmouth College, Brown University, Georgetown University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Southern California (USC), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Vassar College, and Northeastern University.

Berwick’s competitive edge extends beyond traditional STEM and humanities, as 35 students celebrated induction into the World Languages National Honor Society (spanning Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish). Another 26 students were inducted into the Visual and Performing Arts National Honor Society (across dance, music, theater, and fine arts).

"These scholars embody the intellectual curiosity and moral integrity that define Berwick Academy," said Director of Upper School Mary Jo Carabatsos. "We look forward to seeing how they continue to lead and inspire our community."

Ultimately, these elite recognitions serve as crucial, nationally recognized benchmarks. They validate a curriculum that doesn’t just teach to a test, but systematically builds elite scholars from their very first steps on the Hilltop. For families analyzing the regional independent school landscape, Berwick offers a clear path to the nation’s top universities through its multi-division pipeline.
