Berwick Academy Launches New Bulldog Invitational Skills Academy

Berwick Academy is proud to announce the launch of its new Bulldog Invitational Skills Academy, a specialized program to drive Berwick’s competitive edge, build team culture, and improve player skill. Recognizing the growing demand for high-level training, this summer and fall Berwick will launch a pilot of this program for hockey players in rising Grades 5-12.
The program offers rigorous skill development with an emphasis on technical execution, keeps hockey players active on the ice before the season begins, and builds leadership, a healthy mindset, and community within the hockey program and the broader Berwick athletics program. Open to current, newly admitted, and prospective Berwick students, Berwick’s hope is to expand the Skills Academy to additional sports in future years.

"This pilot represents our commitment to evolving our programs to meet the passions of our students," says incoming Director of Athletics Jeremy Clements. "We want to provide an environment where student-athletes can improve their skills and give them the opportunity to make a positive impact, not only on Berwick athletic teams, but also in the greater Berwick community"

We are thrilled to welcome over 35 players to the ice for our inaugural summer session! Running for seven weeks from July 6 through August 21 at the Dover Ice Arena, this highly anticipated training block will feature skill-based groupings staffed by a series of name-recognized external coaches and hockey leaders.

To accommodate working families, ice times are split by age group on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings. This incredible turnout ensures a dynamic, high-energy environment that will set a powerful tone for the upcoming winter season.

As the summer wraps up, the Fall program will run from September right up to the start of the official winter season. This selective session will be a highly-focused, “invitational” phase, specifically tailored for elite skaters tracking toward Varsity play.

To best support our athletes, Berwick is heavily investing in the continuity of this program:
  • Lower Costs: Because this phase is fully integrated into Berwick's core athletic vision, it will be offered at a lower cost to families.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Ice times will be strategically secured before and after school to fully accommodate and coordinate around Berwick fall sports commitments.
  • Club Alignment: The department will actively coordinate with outside league and club hockey schedules to prevent conflicts, allowing players to seamlessly skate for both their club teams and the Academy.
  • The Ultimate Combo: For players not participating in a traditional fall field sport, the Skills Academy pairs perfectly with Power Moves—our new afternoon strength and conditioning program—which fulfills the Upper School afternoon physical requirement.
