Yoga 4 Classrooms

The Y4C (Yoga 4 Classrooms) curriculum is focused on physical, social, emotional, and attentional self-regulating strategies and skills, developed to systematically cultivate well-being, resilience and lifelong learning. Y4C features 67 yoga and mindfulness-based activities, divided into six categories: Let’s Breathe, At Your Desk, Stand Strong, Loosen Up, Imagination Vacation, and Be Well. The goal of Y4C is to create peaceful, productive, learning-ready classrooms in which students will learn to use yoga and mindfulness to improve their focus while developing a lifelong awareness of the importance of their physical and emotional health.

Each week, the Lower School faculty reviews 3 new yoga activities together and these are then shared in each homeroom classroom and within exploration classes. At the end of the week, one class leads a Y4C activity with the whole Lower School in our Friday Community Meeting. The shared implementation of Y4C within the Lower School has promoted a cohesiveness among teachers and students and has enabled the children to be ready to learn in a positive, safe and supportive school environment.
