Residential Program to Launch in 2018

Beginning in September of 2018, Berwick Academy will welcome 10-12  boys to its new residential program for grades 9-12. The School is searching for a diverse applicant pool that includes both international and domestic students for its five and seven day programs. Residential students will live in the School’s newly acquired Hancock House, formerly the Academy Street Inn, which is located just steps away from campus and downtown South Berwick.
The Hancock House is named after John Hancock who signed the Berwick Academy charter in 1791 when South Berwick was still part of Massachusetts. As a former bed and breakfast, the Hancock House offers a unique family-style residential experience. Students may opt to stay on campus either five days a week or full time in our seven day program. Students in the five day program will leave campus after their last commitment on Friday and return to the House on Sunday afternoon. Families may take advantage of our Friday afternoon and Monday morning bus service to Newburyport, MA, Scarborough, ME, or Manchester, NH.

For full-time residential students, the School has created a thoughtful and robust weekend program. Students will engage with their peers both on and off campus for school related events, off campus activities, and Seacoast area adventures.

Along with the new program, Berwick is excited to welcome our newly appointed Residential Life Coordinator Kara Cross. Kara resides in the Hancock House carriage house and will serve as the primary contact for residential students and their families. Kara has an extensive background in residential programs. Having grown up on the Taft School’s campus, she has a deep understanding of the benefit from living, learning, and playing as a residential student. Kara has a master’s degree in English from the University of Vermont and master's degree in social work from the University of New England. She previously taught and was part of the residential staff at Blair Academy.

Serving Maine, The Seacoast of New Hampshire, and the North Shore of Massachusetts

Berwick Academy is Maine's oldest, independent Pre-K through Post Graduate private school. Our community is dynamic, offering challenging academics, competitive athletics, and creative arts programs. Members of the community operate within a context of caring and respect as we pursue our quest for "useful knowledge" as "one school with three divisions." Students and faculty are encouraged to expand their horizons by balancing academics with athletic, dramatic, and musical options.
