Bulldogs come out of gates hot then fall flat in second half

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA –It is always a battle when Berwick and St. Mark’s get together, and this one was no different. Both teams came out of the gates playing physical and St. Mark’s struck just five minutes in. Berwick matched their goal just thirty seconds later when Tyler Gaulin (Kingston, NH) made a nifty feed to his brother Ryan for a one-timer finish from the high slot. Three minutes later, Berwick earned their first powerplay of the game and Greg Stohrer (Barrington, NH) cashed in on a one-timer on a feed from Ryan Gaulin. With five minutes remaining in the first, the Bulldogs got one more when Jackson Sidford (Newburyport, MA) got the puck below the goal line. He faked like he was headed out the left side of the cage and delivered a flat pass back to Jack Merecki (Stratham, NH) on the right side of the cage for another one-timer just under the crossbar. It was one of Berwick’s best periods of the season, highlighted by three of the nicest goals of the year.

The second and third period, however, was all St. Mark’s. Despite Ryan Gaulin’s powerplay snipe, with assists the Stohrer and Tanner Derby (Newburyport, MA), St. Mark’s earned three of their own. In the third, it was all St. Mark’s again with two more goals and an empty netter to cap the night off. The Bulldogs head into this President’s Day weekend hoping to finish strong with two games remaining next week against Holderness and Governor’s.
