Bulldogs Clinch EIL Tournament Berth

The Bulldogs hosted Portsmouth Abbey on a blustery rainy day and honored their six seniors Lily Pleau (Hampton Falls, NH), Charlotte Vatcher (Kennebunk, ME), Phoebe Clark (Hampton, NH), Reese Murphy (Stratham, NH), Sophia Whitney (Hampton, NH), Kara Borkowski (Wells, ME). The Bulldogs were determined to start strong, knowing that a win would clinch a spot in the EIL tournament. 
 
In the third minute, the Bulldogs scored their first goal when Phoebe Clark played a great pass to Sophia Whitney at the top corner of the 18 and with authority, Sophia drove the ball to the far post side netting with a great left footed strike giving the Bulldogs the 1-0 advantage. Just two minutes later, Grace Libby (Standish, ME) came down the left flank and played a great diagonal ball across the field to Kara Borkowski who dribbled into the 18 and shot the ball over the Portsmouth Abbey goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead. Louise Roper (Kennebunk, ME) had a big save to keep Portsmouth Abbey off the scoreboard and the Bulldog defense was there to clear the ball away. The Bulldogs went into the halftime break up 2-0.
 
The team came out strong in the second half, determined to continue scoring. In the 42nd minute, Grace Libby hit the crossbar off a pass from Lily Pleau  on the right. In the 47th minute, Lily Pleau took a strong shot and the PA goalie tipped it over the net. In the 55th minute, Grace Libby played a great through ball, putting Sophia Whitney behind the Abbey defense for a breakaway that she placed into the back of the net for the 3-0 advantage and her second goal of the game. Then, in the 68th minute Eliza Small (Portsmouth, NH) played a ball to Chili Dowd (Amesbury, MA) who beat two defenders and launched a shot off the crossbar. One minute later, Leah Zaheer (West Newbury, MA) crossed the ball to Grace Libby who got the Bulldogs their fourth goal of the game.
 
In the final ten minutes Ginger Friedman (North Hampton, NH) broke through the Abbey defense and was taken down by the PA goalkeeper, earning the Bulldogs the free kick. With seven minutes to go, Lily Pleau tried to increase the Bulldog lead, but her shot hit the crossbar. In the 78th minute, Cam Hamilton (South Berwick, ME) came up with a big save at the top of the 18 to preserve the shutout for the Bulldogs.
 
The Bulldogs are now 10-1-3 and earned their 12th shutout of the season. They will host New Hampton School on Wednesday, November 3rd and travel to Brewster on Friday, November 5th in two non-league NEPSAC Class C matchups.
