World Languages and Cultures

In seventh grade, the year begins with a major review of concepts from sixth grade to include new Berwick students with little or no language exposure. These concepts are constantly reinforced throughout the year. Seventh graders officially begin the Beginning/Level I curriculum sequence that continues into the Upper School.
Beyond the fundamentals of learning a language, teachers find innovative ways to blend diversity, culture, art, creativity, travel, media literacy, history, and project-based learning into the curriculum. Returning Berwick Academy seventh graders begin the year with a Novice Low-Mid proficiency level and finish the year with a Novice Mid-High proficiency level. Half of the Beginning/Level I curriculum is finished during this school year.
