Proctor runs and guns to drop Berwick in this road contest

ANDOVER, NH –Proctor, sitting in the eighth and final playoff spot, played like they needed a win in this one. Berwick, needing to win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive, generated their most Grade A scoring chances of the year but just could not match Proctor’s firepower. The Hornets scored on the first shift of the game and capitalized on a short-handed 2-on-1 halfway through the first to go into the locker room with a 2-0 lead.

Ryan Gaulin (Kingston, NH) got the visitors on the board four minutes into the second on feeds from Greg Stohrer (Barrington, NH) and Chris Dowd (Danville, NH). Thirty seconds later, a strong individual effort from Tyler Gaulin led to a shot and rebound that landed on Tucker Smith’s (South Berwick, ME) stick. Smith’s shot deflected up and over to goalie to knot this one at two. It is always dangerous to get in a shootout with Proctor, and in this second period that featured 32 shots between the two teams, Proctor scored twice more to again go into the intermission up by two.

Proctor opened the third with another goal just three minutes in. Jackson Sidford (Newburyport, MA) scored on a netfront tip on the powerplay with assists going to Connor Derby (Newburyport, MA) and Ryan Gaulin. Proctor added one more for good measure and helped their playoff chances, while this loss makes it virtually impossible for the Bulldogs to reach the postseason.
