Bulldogs notch important first W of the season on the road

Connor Derby tucks two PPG and freshman Brock James scores the GWG in the third
KENTS HILL, ME -The Bulldogs' season-opening, four-period scoring drought came to an end Friday night when Connor Derby (Seabrook, NH) found the back of the net on power play feeds from Tyler Gaulin (Kingston, NH) and Michael O'Brien (Chester, NH). Derby, who plays defense in even-strength situations, seemed pretty comfortable in front of the Kents Hill net, as he buried his second of the game in the third period to give the Dogs a 2-1 lead. This time, Gaulin fed O'Brien who fired a shot that caromed off the back boards and out front to Derby who deposited it home. With four minutes left and the game knotted at two, freshman Brock James (Falmouth, ME) found himself with some open ice on the right half-wall. James rolled around the top of the circle and shot past a sea of players, beating the screened Kents Hill goalie to the far post for his first career goal. O'Brien iced the game with an empty netter. Alex Ramsay (Yarmouth, ME) kicked aside 32 of 34 shots he faced. The Bulldogs head into next week with a 1-1-0 record. They travel to rival Pingree on Wednesday, then to Middlesex on Friday, before opening up at home on Saturday against Portsmouth Abbey.
