Sustainability Update from Sustainability Coordinator Sarah Jeanne Shimer

Sara Jeanne Shimer
This year we've increased our focus on sustainability at Berwick throughout all divisions! We are striving to acknowledge our impact on the environment while also taking tangible steps to help preserve the environment.
This Spring, there were several initiatives to reach these goals. First, we hosted visiting artist Kim Bernard, a local Mainer, who up-cycles #2 plastic into art installations. Kim worked with students from PreK-Grade 12 to create an installation in the lobby of Jeppesen by melting and molding plastic collected by our community.

Second, we had a variety of events to celebrate Earth Week, ranging from beach clean-ups to a student-choreographed dance about climate change, and a land acknowledgement created by the Grade 6 Humanities class.

And finally, several Upper School students have been leading community discussions about environmental justice and our role in helping these efforts. As our focus on sustainability grows, we hope that the entire Berwick community, on the Hilltop and beyond, works to take action to make this world a better place for future Bulldogs!
