The Bulldogs played their home opener against Gould Academy on Saturday, September 10, making their Berwick fans proud with a 3-0 win. Despite the heat and humidity, they maintained unwavering control of the game. BA held an 18-shot advantage and 4 corner kick advantage over Gould.
In the second minute, Grace Libby (Standish, ME) gave a lay-off pass to Tessa Keenan (Exeter, NH), who made a beautiful shot on goal; it hit the crossbar but still set the tone for this BA victory, as the Girls Varsity team kept the ball in their half of the field for the majority of the game.
Twenty-eight minutes in, Eliza Small (Portsmouth, NH) skillfully passed the ball to Tessa Keenan who tapped it to Grace Libby who shot and scored the opening goal.
Then, with only two minutes left in the half, Grace Libby lofted a corner kick over the Gould goalie, and Chili Dowd (Amesbury, MA) tapped it to Ginger Friedman (North Hampton, NH), who shot it into the goal.
The second half of the game featured some artful passing sequences between the BA players, and Chili Dowd started off the half on a strong note two minutes in, when she received a beautiful one touch pass from Grace Libby, took a few touches and then shot it into the back of the net.
Cameron Hamilton (South Berwick, ME) and Allie Moore (North Berwick, ME) kept this match a shutout with their steady goalkeeping. Berwick Girls Varsity Soccer will play again on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Tilton School. Go Bulldogs!
